SteelSeries announces the Rival 3 Wireless, a wireless gaming mouse with the same shape as the wired variant. The wireless version can communicate via both WiFi and Bluetooth and can be made lighter by omitting a battery.

The most striking feature of the Rival 3 Wireless is that the mouse has a compartment in which two AAA batteries can be placed. With two full batteries, the mouse can last for about four hundred hours, according to SteelSeries. However, the mouse also runs on one battery, allowing users to vary the weight of the mouse. With two batteries, the mouse weighs 106 grams, with one it weighs 95 grams. Steelseries does not disclose how long the mouse can last on one battery.

The Rival 3 communicates via bluetooth 5.0. With WiFi, the mouse uses the 2.4 GHz band. The mouse can also use two different Wi-Fi channels and determines which one provides the most stable connection. In addition to the two batteries, the bluetooth dongle can also be stored in the housing.

The Rival 3 Wireless has a new sensor developed by PixArt. This TrueMove Air sensor has a sensitivity of 18,000cpi and 400ips, and an acceleration of 40G. The mouse has three additional buttons: one on top of the mouse and two by the thumb. All buttons are programmable via SteelSeries software. The mouse has a memory in which five different button configurations can be stored. The Rival 3 Wireless is available immediately, for 60 euros.
