Steam will no longer hold a Chinese New Year sale from 2023
There will be no more Steam Sale around the Chinese New Year from 2023. According to Steam, users felt that this promotion follows the winter sale too soon. Instead, the event will be replaced by the Spring Sale.
“We have been informed that the Chinese New Year sale followed too soon after the December holiday sale,” it said. in a statement from Steam. “We think that many publishers will still choose to discount games around Chinese New Year by entering the discount themselves. But we suspect that customers will benefit more if there is a little more time between the big Steam season sales ”, reports the platform.
The first Steam sale for Chinese New Year was held in 2016. With that, the platform wanted to “celebrate the influx of game developers and customers from areas such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, China and South Korea”. Steam writes that “publishers and players worldwide have responded enthusiastically to the event,” but there was also criticism. In previous years, the sale has taken place from the end of January to the beginning of February, while the winter edition of the Steam Sale is between the end of December and the beginning of January.
Steam has also shared data on upcoming sales. The next Steam Sale will take place between November 22 and 29. The winter sale is between December 22 and January 5. After that is the spring sale; which starts on March 16 and ends on March 23.
