Steam will display the amount of storage required for games more prominently
Valve will more prominently show Steam users how much storage space is required for a game before they install it. After an update, this information will be displayed within the library. A cloud save icon is also shown.
The update was implemented in the most recent beta version of Steam, The Verge noted. The update is expected to be available to all users in the coming weeks. Users can already install the beta version now via the Steam settings, under ‘Beta participation’.
After the update, users can click on an uninstalled game from their library to see how much storage space it requires. Previously, this information was only displayed after users clicked the install button. The information is where it was previously shown when users last played a game.
The cloud save icon
Steam will also get a new cloud save icon next to the ‘Play’ button with the beta update. That icon shows whether cloud saves of a game are present and whether they are properly synchronized. This is checked when users click on a game. If the cloud saves are OK, a check mark will appear.
Presumably, Valve will add this feature ahead of the Steam Deck release later this month. The handheld will have a ‘Dynamic Cloud Sync’ function. This should ensure that gamers who play a game on their Steam Deck can continue later on, for example, on a PC.
Valve has recently made some major changes to the Steam interface. Last year, the company launched a new downloads page that shows more information about games being installed. That update also introduced a storage manager to the platform, which allows users to see how much storage space is occupied by Steam content on a per-disk basis.
