Steam may be accepting bitcoins
According to game developers, Valve has announced that Steam users will be able to pay with bitcoins. Steam would use a payment provider for this, so that the developers and the service themselves receive regular currency.
The announcement can be read on Reddit, where the text was posted by the creator of the game SanctuaryRPG. He says he has received an email containing the news. SteamDB, which is not officially linked to Valve, has a screenshot on Twitter posted of the same post, which is said to have been published in a private community forum on Steam.
By running the bitcoin transactions through a payment provider, there is no risk for publishers and developers who sell their games on Steam. They do not have to attach a bitcoin price to their game; it is converted by the payment provider on the basis of the current price in the currency of the country of purchase.
In February, there were already rumors about bitcoin support on Steam. Then texts with references to BitPay were discovered. Valve may therefore also go into business with this payment provider. It is not yet clear when users will actually have the option to pay with bitcoins.
