Steam image may point to CoD: Modern Warfare 2 release on Steam
A promotional image posted on Steam may hint that Call of Duty is coming back to the game platform with Modern Warfare 2. Since 2017, new games in the PC franchise have been released exclusively through Battle.net and no longer through Valve’s virtual store.
The image in question was initially posted on the official Black Ops 3 DLC page on Steam and shows the Ghost character, who appears in many promotional materials for Modern Warfare 2. An user noticed on Reddit note that this banner refers to the upcoming Call of Duty game, although the image has since been removed. Through Google Cache the reference to Ghost and Modern Warfare 2 can still be seen.
It’s far from an official confirmation that the upcoming shooter is coming to Steam, as it could just be a human error. Even if customers could buy the game via Steam, it is not excluded that the game will still be started via the Battle.net launcher.
On the other hand, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the first game in the franchise to be released since Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. The latter company has released a variety of first party games via Steam in recent years, including the Halo franchise, the Forza Horizon games and Sea of Thieves.
