Steam beta client gets support for Nintendo Switch Pro controller

Steam users can use Nintendo’s Switch Pro controller to play games. For the time being, the beta version of the game service’s client is required, says Valve.

When using the beta, the Switch Pro controller can be found in the Controller Settings, Valve reports. Users can use Nintendo’s button layout and customize the controls on a game-by-game basis. Steam also supports the gyroscope in the controller for motion control.

The Switch Pro controller is not the standard Nintendo console controller; those are the Joy-Cons that users can clip onto the side of the Switch. The Pro controller is available separately for gamers who want a traditionally styled controller to control games.

The Nintendo controller isn’t the first controller to support Steam either. Users can also use the PS4 and Xbox One controllers with Steam games. It is unknown if and when control via the Pro controller for the Switch will come in the stable version of the Steam client.
