StarCraft II will no longer receive new content after ten years on the market

StarCraft II, Blizzard’s 2010 rts game, will no longer receive new content such as Commanders and War Chests. The game does get balance fixes and season rolls. This is partly because the game is also played as an e-sport.

Blizzard argues that the move gives developers room to “think about what’s next, including across the entire StarCraft universe.” It is not yet clear what that will be: no other StarCraft titles have been announced at this time. However, it does not seem to be a new ‘main game’, as Blizzard already announced in 2015 that the story that started in StarCraft ended with StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void.

The last major content expansion for StarCraft II was Legacy of the Void, from 2015. Since then, the game has had War Chests that include new skins, sprays, emoji and more. In addition, the game got several co-op Commanders, which cost money above a certain level. These smaller content extensions are also ready with this one.

Blizzard also says that a major balance sheet update is not coming this fourth quarter, as there was another a few months ago.
