Star Wars: Visions anime will be released on Disney+ on September 22
Disney has shared a first trailer for the Star Wars: Visions anime, which will be released September 22 on Disney+. The anime includes an anthology of several single stories, which are created by different anime studios.
The Star Wars: Visions series features nine different stories being created by seven different studios, reports Lucas Film during an Anime Expo Lite panel. LucasFilm says they let these studios tell stories “that don’t necessarily have to fit into the official Star Wars timeline,” even if they want to use well-known characters.
“We’re looking for something from the heart and soul of the individual creators. It’s their visions through the lens of Star Wars,” said LucasFilm executive producer James Waugh. Waugh does state that Star Wars fans who do not know anime need not worry. According to LucasFilm, the series spans many different genres, from “grand and daring” to “romantic and compelling” or “funny and comedic.”
For example, one of the episodes is a rock opera on Tatooine, while The Duel would be an episode with samurai-esque Jedi and Sith. The episode Lop & Ochō in turn features a ‘space bunny persona’. Star Wars: Visions was announced in December, although the makers did not mention a release date at the time. The full series will be released on Disney+ on September 22.
