‘Star Wars film about Boba Fett is not coming’
Ask any Star Wars fan to name their favorite villain, and alongside Darth Vader, the name Boba Fett will no doubt be mentioned quite often. A Star Wars film about this character was rumored to be in the works, but it now seems to have been discontinued.
According to entertainment journalist Erick Weber, Lucasfilm’s director Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed to him that the Boba Fett film reportedly in development is “100 percent dead.” He reports on Twitter that Kennedy told him that all their energy is now being put into the TV series The Mandalorian, rather than being preoccupied with the movie about the heavily armed and jetpacked bounty hunter. Gizmodo, among others, has asked Lucasfilm for confirmation, but the studio has not yet responded. The studio has also never officially confirmed to be working on a film about Boba Fett.
The Mandolorian is a live action TV series set in the Star Wars universe that is being made exclusively for Disney’s upcoming new streaming platform. Produced and written by Jon Favreau, this series focuses on a new hero from the universe, seven years after the fall of The Empire and thus after the period from the movie Return of the Jedi. The new protagonist is inspired by the characters Jango and Boba Fett and will likely have somewhat similar gear, including the signature helmet.
