Star Wars Battlefront II microtransactions lead to downvote record on Reddit

Anyone visiting the Star Wars Battlefront subreddit will have noticed that there has been criticism of EA’s balancing act between free and paid game content. A response from EA stands at a record number of more than 230,000 downvotes.

The response in question was posted in a thread in which the topic starter is angry at not being able to play as Darth Vader directly, despite paying for the Deluxe version of the game. EA Games writes, “The aim is for players to feel a sense of pride and satisfaction from unlocking certain heroes.” This apparently upset users of reddit, as the number of downvotes continues to rise at a rapid pace.

EA Games further states that it has prepared the costs based on data from the open beta. It would investigate whether the number of credits players receive needs to be adjusted and would make adjustments on a daily basis. A sharp Redditor noted that if downvotes were to earn credits, at least EA Games now has enough to play as Darth Vader. That now costs 60,000 credits, but could change.

The criticism focuses on the number of hours it takes to earn enough credits to unlock Darth Vader, for example. Critics say that would take too much time. A global calculation, where an EA developer commented on Twitter caveats when placed, it comes out that it takes 40 hours to unlock Darth Vader. Players can also earn credits by purchasing loot boxes.

EA’s handling of microtransactions has been criticized recently. For example, the company adjusted the operation of loot boxes after criticism that buying them can provide an advantage in the game. Star Wars Battlefront II is out November 17 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. The game is already limited to play through the Access programs from EA and Origin.
