Star Wars: Battlefront Didn’t Get Campaign Due To Star Wars Movie Premiere
Star Wars: Battlefront has not been given a single player campaign, because publisher EA wanted to put the game on the shelves before the release of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie. EA and DICE are currently working on a successor and are hoping for a better Metacritic score.
Battlefront was released in November last year, about a month before the film’s release in December. The omission of a campaign was a conscious decision to release the game for the film, EA now explains to investors. The lack of a campaign was a point of criticism in many reviews. On Metacritic, the PC and console versions of the game score between 72 and 75 points.
EA indicates that it is not happy with that score and says it wants to improve it with the next part in the series. Several EA studios are working on various new Star Wars games, the publisher announced last week. One of those new games is the sequel to Star Wars: Battlefront, which DICE is working on. That game should be released in late 2017, again along with a new Star Wars movie. It is not yet clear whether the new Battlefront game will have a single player campaign, but that would probably be a good move to boost the average review score.
EA’s vice president Patrick Söderlund made the statements about Battlefront during the publisher’s investors day, Eurogamer noted. It is the first time that publisher Electronic Arts gives an explanation for the lack of an extensive single player part in the game.
