The publisher of Star Citizen has announced that the game will run on Amazon Lumberyard from version number 2.6, as a replacement for Crytek’s CryEngine. As a result, Amazon cloud services can also be used.

Cloud Imperium Games, creator of Star Citizen, announced the news on the game’s website. The company recently released version 2.6 of the game, which introduced the game engine change. The switch from CryEngine to Lumberyard has been in the works for a year, but according to the developer the transition went quite smoothly. That probably also has to do with the fact that Lumberyard is a fork of CryEngine.

The change of game engine brings a number of changes with it: for example, there is integration with Amazon Web Services, the cloud service of the online department store. The transition should also make it easier to support the game streaming service Twitch.

Roberts Space Industries has also added new content in version 2.6 of Star Citizen, which is still in the alpha stage. There is Star Marine, a first person shooter that has two different play modes. Several existing features in the game have also been polished up.
