Star Citizen single-player beta release delayed by three months
The beta release of the single player portion of Star Citizen has been pushed back by three months. This was originally supposed to come out in the second quarter of 2020, but that has now become the third quarter. This is due to changes in the development schedule.
Roberts Space Industries announces that it is splitting the development team in two. Where previously the entire team had to deliver a major update every quarter, now every half releases an update every six months, with still three months between each update. However, that means that you have to shift a bit to get the ‘rhythm’ of the updates in order. The result is the postponement of the so-called Squadron 42 beta.
Star Citizen is being developed by Chris Roberts, the mind who is also behind the old Wing Commander games. More than 200 million dollars has been raised through crowdfunding for the development of the enormous space simulator. This also leads to criticism, as Robert Space Industries missed several deadlines for the game. The multiplayer part of the game is already playable, in the form of Alpha 3.6.
Squadron 42 has a cast full of big names from Hollywood such as Mark Hamill, Mark Strong, Gary Oldman, John Rhys-Davies, Liam Cunningham, Ben Mendelsohn, Gillian Anderson and Andy Serkis. They supply both their faces and their voices for the game.
