To date, more than $350 million has been raised through crowdfunding for space game Star Citizen. Since 2012, it has been possible to contribute to development. However, there is still no official release date, even though certain parts are playable in early access.

The official site of the game shows that the counter at the time of writing stands at just over $351 million. Converted that is about 294 million euros. This current total amount comes from donations from a total of more than three million interested parties.

In June last year, the $300 million mark was passed, meaning an additional $50 million has been raised in the past nine months. November last year was by far the best month of recent times; nearly $17 million was raised at that time, which can mainly be explained by the annual two-week free period that took place in that month. In December 2019, the counter was still at 251 million dollars.

The current $350 million is not the full amount raised so far, as private investments have also been made. An earlier estimate was based on a total of between 450 and 470 million dollars. According to developer Cloud Imperium Games, all money raised through crowdfunding will go directly to the development of the game.

According to the timeline on the official site, it appears that the campaign should start from Monday. This probably concerns Squadron 42, a separate single player story. There is still no release date for this and the intended release period has already been missed more than once. According to the current planning, this part should consist of at least 28 chapters.

Star Citizen is currently on alpha version 3.12 and Cloud Imperium Games expects the game to be on alpha version 3.16 by the end of this year.
