‘Star Citizen gameplay is not a utopia’

Chris Roberts, the founder of Cloud Imperium Games and the man behind the unofficial space game Star Citizen, has said in response to criticism of the game’s condition that the gameplay promised is not a utopia and that the game will actually be released. .

Chris Roberts has commented on a player’s criticism on the Star Citizen forum. This player criticizes the communication about the state of the game, which he says is often said that it is being worked on, that the wait can be frustrating and that it is explained how the system will eventually work. According to the player, the makers have not yet succeeded in developing a good-looking damage model after eight years. He also thinks that many basic mechanisms are missing and that what there is can be called amateurish at best. He argues that achieving the promised gameplay as predicted by Roberts could take another ten to twenty years.

Roberts says the gameplay as he describes it in his elaborate response is not a utopia and it won’t take ten or twenty years to deliver. He says Cloud Imperium Games’ systematic approach brings more possibilities, but it also takes longer to see results. In doing so, he specifically contrasts Star Citizen and its gameplay with the development of scripted actions; the latter would take less time to complete, while Roberts points out that Star Citizen would need to build the fundamental systems and make them interrelated before the full scope of gameplay becomes apparent. Robert also complains a little about the cynicism that he believes is rampant in internet forums today, with people quickly assuming the worst scenario.

Robert does not yet provide a timeline for when ‘everything comes together’. The schedule, which has not been updated since March, shows that Squadron 42, a separate single-player story, should go into beta in the third quarter of this year. At the moment, there is a period of several weeks where players can fly around the game for free. This will last until September 23. The developer had already raised $ 300 million for the development of Star Citizen in June and the counter is now at $ 313 million.
