Standing PlayStation 5 is the highest console of recent generations
A Reddit user has been able to give an idea of how wide and high the PlayStation 5 is compared to its ilk by using standard sizes – USB-A ports and disk slots. It seems to be the tallest console of the past generations and also the widest by a hair.
Reddit user GREB07 has done the homework. On the basis of the dimensions of the Xbox Series X, which are already known, one can even venture a comparison in centimeters. That’s what users on the ResetEra forum did and came up with a height of 38 centimeters excluding the pedestal. At its widest point, the console is 9 inches wide.
Including the foot, however, this becomes considerably wider. Ten millimeters on the ResetEra image appears to be 12 pixels, meaning the console is a maximum of 144mm wide and 382mm high with base. The version without disc tray does not have the ‘cheek’ that the other version has, but due to the presence of the same foot, it has an equally large footprint and therefore the same widest point.
For context, the Xbox Series X will be a bar-shaped device with a footprint of 151mm by 151mm and a height of 301mm.
It should be noted here: Sony has not officially announced dimensions, so there is no certainty. In addition, USB-a ports and optical disks are of a standard size and therefore something can be said about the images, but whether the images of the PS5 are final is also not certain. Given the announcement of the Xbox Series X dimensions, they seem more or less fixed.
Sony unveiled the hardware design of the upcoming console last Thursday night in a livestream that lasted just over an hour. In addition to the hardware, numerous games were also shown.
