Square Enix Shows Off Final Fantasy VII Remake Battle System
Square Enix shows a new video of the Final Fantasy VII remake. The images include a new combat system. The game only contains the ‘Midgar’ part of the original, other parts will be added later in episodes.
The 1997 remake of the original features a real-time combat system instead of turn-based combat. There are still elements of a turn-based system that remain. For example, there is an ATB level that slowly increases as the player takes actions in combat, such as blocking or attacking. Once that meter is full, the player can pause the game and turn on a tactical mode to use special attacks and powers. There are also shortcuts to speed up tactical mode. Each enemy also has a so-called ‘focus’ meter. Once this meter is full, player attacks deal more damage.
Because it is a remake, familiar faces from the original return. Barret makes his return with his arm that acts as a firearm. Tifa also returns with a refreshed appearance in the remake.
The game only contains the ‘Midgar’ part of the original. Square Enix will add the rest of the parts in episodes later. There will be several limited editions of the game. For example, a Deluxe edition will be released for 80 euros. This edition includes an artbook, a steelbook cover and a soundtrack on CD. There will also be a First Class version, this version contains a statue of the character Cloud.
Not only Final Fantasy VII is getting a remake, but Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is also getting a remaster. The game, which originally appeared on the Gamecube, is getting a graphical update and a multiplayer mode. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles will be released sometime this winter for PlayStation 4, iOS, Android, and Nintendo Switch, among others.
There will also be a Final Fantasy VIII remaster. The remaster of the 1999 original will be released later this year for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. A PC version will also be available on Steam.
