Spotify works again in Safari browser after almost three years
Spotify supports the Safari browser again. Almost three years ago, Spotify stopped supporting Apple’s official browser for no reason. Users were therefore required to use the macOS application or another browser.
As with the support shutdown in 2017, Spotify is not making any announcement or explaining the decision. It is not entirely clear when the move was made. In any case, based on Archive.org snapshots, it can be said that it happened between April 27 and May 14. In any case, the fact that the browser has actually returned to Spotify’s support page indicates that it is no coincidence.
According to users at the time, it could have been the Widevine plugin. Spotify uses it for DRM purposes, but Safari did not consider the plug-in safe enough in 2017 and therefore does not accept the installation. It’s unclear what changed there, but Safari still doesn’t seem to support Widevine.
