Spotify to offer audiobooks in the US
Spotify is adding audiobooks to its offering for customers in the United States. Unlike the music library and podcasts on the platform, audiobooks require users to pay per piece.
Spotify announces announced that 300,000 audiobooks will be made available through its platform. Spotify users can purchase the audiobooks separately. The audiobooks are therefore not part of the Spotify subscription, but the company gradually wants to see whether this revenue model is a good fit for offering audiobooks.
The same goes for offering audiobooks in other regions. Although no concrete schedule is given in the announcement, it is intended that audiobooks will also be available to Spotify users outside the US.
In addition to music, Spotify has also been offering podcasts for quite some time. Users do not have to pay extra for this. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the company’s podcasts division is not yet profitable.
