Spotify tests way for users to block music from artists

Spotify is testing a way for users to block music from selected artists. Users will then no longer be able to hear that music in playlists such as Discover Weekly or charts lists.

A Thurott.com author is in beta and has the position, he writes. The function can be reached by clicking on the menu with three dots for an artist, after which the option ‘Do not play this artist’ appears. After that, a message will appear that Spotify will no longer play music from that artist.

The feature only works on music where the blocked artist is the main artist and not in combination with more artists. Spotify has been testing the feature for a few months, with the music service making the test available to many more people last week. It seems to only work in the iOS feature and not yet on the web, in desktop apps, or on Android.

Spotify previously rejected the idea of letting users block music, but seems to have backtracked on that with this test. Users are not required to provide a reason why they want to block certain artists’ music.
