Spotify starts with personalized playlists with known and unknown songs
Spotify comes with Mix, a personalized playlist with a mix of songs that the user has already listened to, supplemented with songs that the algorithm thinks users will like. The feature will be available soon.
The playlists are called Mix, says Spotify. In addition, the concept builds on the Daily Mix playlists that users can already listen to. The intention is to let users first listen to songs that are already known and then find songs that are still unknown to them in the same line. An algorithm must ensure a good match.
This concerns mixes in three categories: based on an artist, based on a genre and based on a decade. There had been playlists of this for some time, but they had not been personalized until now.
Spotify makes more frequent use of algorithmic playlists, such as Discover Weekly with several dozen mostly older songs or covers per week, Release Radar with often new songs and compilations of favorite songs per year. The mixes will appear in the Made for You hub on Spotify’s Home page.
