Spotify seems to be working on feature to play local MP3s in Android app
Spotify appears to be working on a feature to play locally stored MP3s in the Android app, a developer has discovered. Spotify has not yet responded to the find. The feature has been in the desktop app for years.
An Import function is hidden in the settings, developer Jane Wong discovered . She researches well-known apps more often to find unannounced functions in the code. These findings often turn out to be correct, such as when Twitter worked on the option to hide replies to tweets or when Instagram started hiding the number of likes as a test . The option mentions that users are given the option to show local files in the Your Library section of the music streaming service.
Wong says she is not aware of the feature being included in the iOS version. Spotify has supported the function on desktop for many years. By putting local files in a playlist and making them available offline on iOS or Android, users can play local files from desktop on mobile devices. With the advent of this feature, that detour would no longer be necessary. Spotify has not yet responded to the find.
