Spotify officially releases its Car Thing in the United States. The accessory for listening to music in the car was already limited release in the US last year. Spotify hasn’t said anything about a release in other countries yet.

According to Spotify, when using Car Thing, users listen to music more in the car and find it easier to choose music while driving with the accessory. The 90 gram device consists of a 4 “screen with a large volume knob and built-in microphones.

Users can choose music on the screen or use voice control with a Hey Spotify command. Car Thing does not work as a standalone device, but must be wirelessly paired with an Android or iOS smartphone. A Spotify Premium account is required to use the accessory.

A number of requests have emerged from the test phase that Spotify wants to implement. This concerns a night mode in which the screen is dimmed and a command to add music to a queue. Spotify will officially sell Car Thing in the United States from Tuesday, but has not yet said anything about a possible release in other countries.
