Spotify quietly stops with Greenroom Creator Fund
Spotify is closing its Greenroom Creator Fund. The program had to give artists the opportunity to earn money from conversations in the audio chat app Greenroom. It is not clear why Spotify is discontinuing the program.
Spotify has emailed participating artists on Monday that it will stop Greenroom Creator Fund. In a e-mail owned by Podnews, Spotify writes that the company wants to “focus on other live content initiatives.” The company does not give a specific reason for the discontinuation of Greenroom or what would replace it in the future.
The Greenroom Creator Fund was introduced together with the audio chat app Greenroom. The app is a Clubhouse competitor that allows users to have live conversations with each other and artists. It is not clear what will happen with this app now. Spotify isn’t alone in investing in live audio calls since the popularity of Clubhouse.
It seems that Spotify wants to merge the Greenroom app with the Spotify app. Greenroom was initially released as a separate app, after Spotify bought the company behind Locker Room.
