‘Spotify puts Clubhouse competitor in app’
Spotify will integrate its Clubhouse competitor Greenroom into the streaming service’s app, says financial news agency Bloomberg. The feature will be called Spotify Live there and will enable conversation tracking.
Greenroom is now a separate appBut that’s going to change before summer reports Bloomberg. The function will be called Spotify Live and makes it possible to follow live conversations, as is now possible in Greenroom. Greenroom is the renamed version of Locker Room, a competitor to the more famous Clubhouse. Spotify acquired the company behind Locker Room last year.
Spotify probably wants to draw attention to Greenroom with the step. That hasn’t happened yet. It is the third audio format after music and podcasts that will be found in the Spotify app. The Swedish company has deals to get interesting conversations in the app for users.
After the initial success of Clubhouse early last year, many companies copied the idea of live audio conversations, in which users can participate. The idea is that some people speak and the rest listen, while participants in the audience can virtually raise their hands to also say something in the conversation. The best-known Clubhouse alternatives to date are Twitter Spaces and Discord Stage Channels. Telegram, Microsoft’s LinkedIn and Facebook, among others, have also been working on a live audio app.
