Spotify has updated its applications for Android and iOS, which has given them support for Chromecast. Google had already promised that Spotify support would appear soon.

The new Spotify applications have been made available in the application stores for Android and iOS and can also be downloaded as an app update as usual. Spotify itself reports that the new software brings support for Chromecast: this concerns the new version that was recently announced, including the new Chromecast Audio that can be connected to speakers.

Support for the first version of the Chromecast is not yet available. Spotify states that this will follow ‘soon’. The company behind the streaming service did not want to give a release date, so it is still unclear how long users have to wait.

The new Chromecast 2 includes support for 5GHz WiFi and content preloading by predicting what the user wants to play. Google has also provided the device with a new housing.
