Spotify Lite appears in the Play Store
Spotify has released a lightweight application with limited functionality for Android in the Google Play Store. It is still a test version for the time being and Spotify Lite is not intended for all markets.
Spotify Lite takes up much less space at 15MB than the approximately 100MB of the full Spotify app for Android, but the company has removed a lot of functionality for that. The free Lite app actually only randomly plays songs from suggested playlists. At the bottom of the screen are buttons for home, search and favorites.
Users can set their data limit and choose from 250MB, 500MB, 750MB, 1GB, 2GB and 3GB. They can’t adjust the quality. The lightweight app does not support Spotify Connect and also lacks the option to download music for offline listening.
Spotify Lite works from Android 4.1 and later versions in a limited number of countries. The developer reports to adjust the functionality based on feedback.
