Spotify lets free members play music from playlists in their own order
Spotify has adjusted its offer for members who do not pay for a subscription. Free users can now determine the song order themselves from the music in fifteen personalized playlists.
Free users get a total of about 750 songs at their disposal, more than forty hours of music. The music is divided into fifteen playlists, such as Daily Mix, Discover Weekly, Release Radar and Today’s Top Hits. Each user gets different music, depending on the given preferences and over time the content of the lists changes.
It is still possible to listen to music that is not on the playlists, but then the shuffle mode will be activated. The music within the fifteen playlists can be freely played by users in a preferred way. Furthermore, Spotify adds a data saver mode in the free version, which, according to the company, reduces data usage by up to 75 percent. The free version will continue to contain ads.
Since 2014 it is possible to use Spotify for free on mobile devices, with the limitation that the shuffle function is always on and the presence of advertisements. It is the first time that Spotify makes changes to the free version. The streaming service has 90 million users who do not pay and 70 million customers with a paid subscription.
Spotify is implementing the changes in a new app for free users, which should appear for all users in the near future. Techcrunch and The Verge, among others, were present at the announcement of Spotify.
