Spotify is working on Tastebuds feature to discover friends’ music
Spotify has put a test version of a feature called Tastebuds online as part of its desktop site. The feature allows users to discover music from friends “whose taste they trust,” the company said.
The test feature can be found at https://open.spotify.com/tastebuds but it doesn’t work yet. The feature was discovered by Jane Manchun Wong who tells TechCrunch that users can click the pen icon to find people they follow. Then they can see what that person listened to the most. They can also easily listen to those tracks or add them to their own library.
On the desktop, but not on mobile, Spotify already has a ‘Discover what your friends are listening to’ feature but it works through Facebook. It is not known whether Tastebuds will replace this function. Spotify’s other social features are relatively limited. Users can, however, share numbers with fellow users via social services such as Twitter, Messenger, Telegram and Skype.
