Spotify is testing voice responses when listening to playlists

Spotify is testing users to record voice responses when listening to playlists. Once that comment is recorded, it will appear on the user’s account as a podcast episode.

The Vietnamese Reddit user Mortical 219 has published a screenshot of a Spotify playlist overview window in the Spotify app for Android. It shows an icon with which a voice response can be recorded. When the icon is clicked, a new window appears with the question what the user of the playlist thinks and below that a button to record a sound fragment. That fragment can be recorded in one go, or in several parts. The audio can according to TechCrunch can be edited afterwards and background music can also be added.

Spotify also shows a banner that shows some conditions. For example, it is not allowed to record hate speech or offensive content and it is also forbidden to record music during the registration of the voice response.

It is not clear whether and when the feature will be rolled out to other users. Spotify also tested earlier this year an experimental feature which allowed users in New Zealand to record, edit and publish podcasts through the app. Spotify has not yet shared any information about whether and when this feature will be rolled out.
