Spotify has announced in the publication of the quarterly figures that the service has 232 million monthly active users. 108 million users have a paid subscription to the music streaming service.

The number of paying and non-paying Spotify users is still growing strongly, according to the quarterly figures. The number of 232 million monthly active users is 29 percent more than in the same period a year earlier. The 108 million paying customers represent an increase of 31 percent. In total, 129 million users now listen to Spotify through advertisements; that is 27 percent more than during the second quarter of 2018.

The share of paying subscribers in the total number of users appears to be leveling off somewhat. In the first quarter of 2018, paying users still accounted for 44 percent of the total number of monthly active users, and in the first quarter of this year this amounted to 46 percent; in the past quarter it rose only slightly by half a percentage point.

Turnover amounted to 1.67 billion euros, an increase of 31 percent compared to a year earlier. The music service, which started in October 2008, did not make a profit in the past quarter; the loss amounted to 3 million euros. That is a considerable improvement compared to the loss in the same period a year earlier, which then amounted to 90 million euros.
