Spotify gets video takeovers

Spotify has introduced a new form of advertising. While the company has already served audio clips and still advertising images to unsubscribed users to date, the Swedish organization will soon also be showing advertising videos to this target group.

Spotify reports this on its own site. With the new feature, it focuses specifically on the thirty million unsubscribed users. From now on, in addition to the other forms of advertisements, they will be able to see advertising videos on all platforms. Nothing will change for the more than ten million Premium subscribers of Spotify. After all, they pay to listen to ad-free music.

The advertising videos appear in two forms. First, there’s the video takeover service, which is primarily for desktops only. Listeners are shown unsolicited videos of fifteen to thirty seconds between songs. In addition, there will be a sponsored session, which is aimed at the mobile market. Users are asked if they want to watch a 15-30 second commercial video. In exchange, they can listen to ad-free music for half an hour. According to The Next Web, Spotify has already tied a few large companies, such as Coca-Cola, Ford and McDonald’s.

Spotify claimed to have passed the 10 million subscribed user mark in May this year. However, the group of non-paying users is significantly larger at thirty million.
