Spotify app for Magic Leap headset links music with locations

Spotify has released an app for the Magic Leap One-ar headset, which allows users to link songs, artists and playlists to locations. The app then plays that music when users arrive at that location.

The app uses the headset’s Background Music Service API, Magic Leap says. This makes it possible to play the music even when users switch to other apps that are not ‘immersive’. It is the first app to use the API, the company said.

The app uses the Magic Leap platform to memorize locations around the house and users can add music to them. This makes it possible to assign music to certain places and to be able to play it quickly in that place. That only works in the headset and not on a phone, tablet or computer.

The Magic Leap One is an ar headset that came out last year. It is unknown how many copies the American company has sold so far. Previously Magic Leap teamed up with the also Scandinavian Rovio for an Angry Birds game for the platform.
