Spotify again tests app to listen to music stations for free

Spotify has re-released its Stations app in Australia. The app was already available there once before. Both then and now, Spotify calls it an experiment. The app contains ‘music stations’; users can choose a station, but not the specific music.

Stations is available on iOS and Android, but cannot be downloaded from outside the approved region. The last time Stations saw the light of day, a year and a half ago, the app could at least be sideloaded on Android. It is unknown whether and when Spotify Stations will come to countries other than Australia.

On a support page, Spotify states that users can indicate whether they like a song or not. The stations are then adjusted so that the service can do better for them in the future. Favorite stations, Discover Weekly and Release Radar are also available. Those are automatically generated playlists in Spotify itself. If you don’t have Spotify Premium, you will hear advertisements between songs and you can’t skip music tracks indefinitely.
