Spotify acquires start-up that lets users make music online
Spotify has acquired a Swedish company called Soundtrap. This start-up is working on an online tool that allows users to make music themselves, and this will continue to exist after the takeover.
The acquisition has been confirmed by Spotify through a notice on its website. Spotify has not made it clear what will be paid for the acquisition. The music streaming service has also not said what it plans to do with the Soundtrap service, but it is clear that the Swedish start-up can continue to offer its software for the time being.
With Soundtrap it is possible to make music by means of a web-based service, whether or not together with others. That music can also be shared with others, and it is therefore likely that Spotify will eventually want to integrate this music into its own music streaming service. Soundtrap has pre-programmed sounds, but it is also possible to record sound yourself with a microphone.
