Cooler manufacturer Spire has announced the successor to the TherMax Eclipse, the TherMax Eclipse II. The differences between the two coolers are minimal: there are still five heatpipes and the cooler is suitable for AMD and Intel sockets.

The TherMax Eclipse II has five u-shaped heatpipes, each 8mm thick, that make direct contact with the heatspreader of the CPU. The heatpipes are nickel-plated and silver-colored, while the original Eclipse still had black heatpipes. The 46 aluminum fins have also lost their black coating. Apart from the external differences, the Eclipse II is almost identical to its predecessor, measuring 131x70x152mm and weighing 822 grams. Two BlackStar 120mm fans are also still included, which would produce a sound pressure of 29dBA at the maximum rotational speed of 2200rpm.

Spire supplies a PCI fan controller with the new Eclipse, although the company has not yet released anything about how this works. The new version of the Eclipse cooler is suitable for all current sockets from both Intel and AMD. The cooler will cost 39 euros, while the original sold for only 33 euros. The difference is probably due to the addition of the fan controller.
