‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales is PS5 Remaster and Expansion’ – Update
PlayStation 5 game Spider-Man: Miles Morales is not a completely new game, but a remaster of the game that appeared in 2018, with an expansion. The game, which is being made by Insomniac Games, will be released at the end of this year.
On Thursday evening, Sony showed a trailer for Spider-Man: Miles Morales, without revealing further details. It seemed to be a new game, but that turns out not to be the case. According to Video Games Chronicle, a Sony CEO explains this in an interview with The Telegraph.
Simon Rutter, the head of Sony’s European PlayStation division, states that Miles Morales is an expansion linked to an upgraded version of Marvel’s Spider-Man. “You can think of it as an extension and an improvement on the previous game,” he says.
According to Rutter, the revamped game includes a substantial new part starring Miles Morales. Furthermore, the remaster includes the complete game that was released in 2018, but significant improvements were made to the game and to the engine to take advantage of the PlayStation 5 hardware.
Marvel’s Spider-Man was released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 in 2018. The game is made by Insomniac Games, a studio that has since been acquired by Sony. The Spider-Man game has sold over 13 million copies. Sony previously used the game to demonstrate how quickly the PlayStation 5 can load a game world.
Update 18:39: Insomniac Games reports on Twitter that Spider-Man: Miles Morales is a standalone game. The studio appears to be responding to the reports. Insomniac does not go into further questions on the tweet, the studio keeps repeating that it is a standalone game. However, the fact that it is a standalone game does not completely exclude Sony’s earlier statements. It could be a standalone extension. Insomniac will be announcing more details about the game in the coming months.
