Speedrunner completes The Outer Worlds in 21 minutes by making character stupid
The Outer Worlds was released this week, an RPG that will take the average player for more than 20 hours. A speedrunner has, barely a week after release, already finished the game in 21 minutes. He did this by making his character stupid.
Over the past week, speedrunners have been working hard to complete the game as quickly as possible. There are many notable speedrun strategies in games, each crazier than the next, but The Outer Worlds does include a very strange speedrun feature. A YouTube user, who goes by the alias Jabo, went through the game in just 21 minutes by making his character silly.
The Outer Worlds is a true old-fashioned RPG, in which players must determine the strengths and weaknesses of their characters at the start of the game. These attributes include a character’s strength, perception, temperament, and intelligence. For example, players can make their character a thin charmer, who can’t fight well but knows how to talk his way out of any situation. Players can also choose to make their characters silly in such a way that it affects the way they talk. The latter is especially interesting for speed runners.
By putting few skill points into a character’s intelligence in The Outer Worlds, some ‘dumb’ dialogue options are unlocked. These dialogs are denoted by ‘[Dumb]’ and are often hilarious. Without spoiling further, the dumb dialogue option allows players to skip a significant portion of the space role-playing game. The speedrun video can be found below. Please note, the video contains spoilers. After all, the game is played out in the video.
