Spacesim X4: Foundations will be released on November 30
German developer Egosoft has announced that the space sim X4: Foundations will be released on November 30 via its own online store and Steam. The company has released a trailer and gameplay video.
Like its predecessors, X4: Foundations is a sandbox space sim where the player can explore the universe, take out opponents, trade, or build space stations and a fleet. According to Egosoft, the game world has been huge from day one, although two expansions have already been announced that add more races, ships, stations and missions. The first expansion is likely to follow sometime in 2019, within a year of its release.
The developer says that in the new game, players can pilot all ships themselves and switch ships seamlessly, for example by stepping out and walking to another ship within a space station. Egosoft further states that X4: Foundations has the most detailed economy, with every part of the NPCs, such as ships, weapons, and upgrades, being part of the economy.
X4: Foundations, according to Egosoft, is the first game in the X series where the different races and factions are free to build their empires, which should make the X universe even more dynamic than was the case with previous games in the series. The studio released X: Rebirth in 2013, but the creator acknowledged that this title was not a success, partly due to the many bugs that the game contained after its release.
