Space shooter Everspace 2 will be released in 2021
Rockfish Games showed a trailer of Everspace 2 during Gamescom in Cologne. The developer will release this successor to Everspace sometime in 2021 for PC, Xbox One and PS4. A Steam Early Access version will be released in the second half of 2020.
Rockfish Games has released a trailer and video of a gameplay session, revealing that the game will be slightly different from its predecessor. Everspace is a single player game with procedurally generated levels and roguelike elements, while Everspace 2 will be an open world shooter with classic RPG elements. It’s still about spaceships in a science fiction setting with a storyline, but things like loot and exploring the world are now also important elements in the new game.
Everspace 2 continues after the events of the original and features a campaign that will last about twenty to thirty hours. Rockfish describes the game as a ‘hack & slash action RPG with all the bells and whistles’: classes, random loot, skills and talents, but in space. The player’s spaceship is more or less the hero of the story, but the player can also build up a sizable private fleet and cleverly combine all kinds of modules, weapons and parts to suit their own playstyle.
The original Everspace was released in May 2017 for the Xbox One and PC, among others, after developer Rockfish Games raised more than 420,000 euros in 2015 with a successful Kickstarter campaign. After that, the makers also raised money through their own site, bringing the total to 670,000 euros. Rockfish Games is going to repeat that: to increase the budget for Everspace 2, the company will start a Kickstarter campaign from September 9 with which it wants to raise 450,000 euros. Rockfish Games consists of the developers who were previously responsible for the Galaxy on Fire games.
