Source Code Points Out 2012 Nexus 4 & 7 Getting Android L Update
The release of some of the source code of Android L indicates that the update to the new version of the operating system is also coming to the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 from 2012. There are currently no Developer Previews for that.
Google has put part of the Android L source code of all Nexus devices online since 2012, Android Police reports. However, the Developer Preview of Android L only came out last week for the 2013 devices.
It is far from obvious that the 2012 devices will receive an update: Google normally supports smartphones and tablets for up to eighteen months after release. That’s why the Galaxy Nexus from 2011 and Nexus S from 2010 have not been getting updates for some time.
Google has not yet denied or confirmed that the Nexus 4, Nexus 10 and Nexus 7 from 2012 will receive updates to Android L. Android L will only be released this fall and contains several changes, including a new ‘design language’. In addition, Android L trades the long-standing Java virtual machine Dalvik for the newer ART.
