Source code of original WipEout game for PSX and Windows appears online
The original source code of the first WipEout game has surfaced on the internet. It concerns uncompiled code from the PlayStation and Windows versions of the game. It is not known whether the game can be made usable quickly.
The code is put online by Forest of Illusion, a group of historians dedicated to preserving Nintendo games in particular. Now the group has found the source code of developer Psygnosis’ futuristic game WipEout. That race takes place in 2053 and was characterized, among other things, because the vehicles flew over the road instead of driving. It was one of the launch games of the original PlayStation.
Forest of Illusion thanks one March42 for providing the code. The group says on Twitter that it is the code of the original PSX game and the Windows port that came out later. It is uncompiled code; the group says that it is unclear whether a working build can easily be made with this.
Also, there is no license for the code. It is intended “for conservation and educational purposes,” says Forest of Illusion.
