Rayman 4’s source code has been leaked. The game, which was never released, was supposed to be a new mainline Rayman title, but the party game Rayman Raving Rabbids was released instead. The source code is accompanied by a level editor, cutscenes and more.

According to research by Gamerant the source code was posted on 4chan, before being further distributed across the internet. It would be an alpha build with source code, models, level editor, cutscenes and ‘other aspects’. Interested users, such as Twitter user RibShark, are combing the leak in search of the most interesting parts.

According to RibShark’s research For example, riding mechanics are present, i.e. a game mechanic in which Rayman rides on the back of another creature. In the attached screenshot that is a giant spider. There is also a level called sphincter cell, which is a pun on Splinter Cell, another franchise from the same publisher. There is also a level in which Rayman has to destroy a gigantic robot from the inside and he is said to have a girlfriend in this game, the 3D model of which has now also been shown.

Rayman was 4 in development around 2005. Rayman Raving Rabbids was released instead. The Rabbids would also be in Rayman 4, but were given a larger role in Raving Rabbids, which only increased in subsequent games. Raving Rabbids is also a party game, similar to Mario Party, while Rayman 4 would have been more of a ‘classic’ Rayman game. Since Raving Rabbids, two titles have been released that are purely about Rayman: Rayman Legends and Origins, both 2D platformers. Three of the more Rabbids-oriented game have been released.

Looks like there’s some actual semi-complete level concepts in here too! Here you enter a rabbid robot and blow it up from inside! pic.twitter.com/klhOLJLaeP
