Sony won’t upgrade last year’s high-end Xperia XZs to Android 9.0
Sony has announced which Xperia smartphones will receive an upgrade to Android 9.0 Pie. This includes the XZ1 and XZ2 devices, but the midrange Xperia L2 from earlier this year and XZs from last year are not included.
The high-end devices in the list will receive the upgrade from November this year, Sony says. The XA2 series of midrange devices can expect the upgrade from early next year. Despite the fact that a large number of devices are on the list, a number of telephones are missing.
The L2, which came out earlier this year, will not get an upgrade. Also missing is the Xperia XZs, which came out last spring. The XZ Premium, which came out around the same time, will receive the upgrade. All devices from 2016 are missing from the list.
Google announced Android 9.0 Pie two weeks ago. Since then, many phone makers have announced plans for upgrades. At the presentation of Android 9.0 Pie, Google already announced that the Sony Xperia XZ2 will receive the update at the end of the fall. Sony is the first of the manufacturers participating in the Android P Beta program to announce a specific schedule for the release of the update for Android 9.0.
