Sony will release compact waterproof wireless speaker for 60 euros in April
Sony has announced the compact wireless speaker SRS-XB13. The speaker is largely waterproof and has a battery life of approximately sixteen hours. Sony claims that the small speaker offers powerful sound through the use of a DSP.
The speaker is the successor of the XB12 and has largely the same specifications. It is also waterproof and dustproof, with an IP67 rating. That is, the device is completely dustproof and continues to work after being submerged in water for thirty minutes at a depth of 15 centimeters to one meter. The speaker has a battery life that is comparable to that of its older brother, about sixteen hours at an average volume level.
It is possible to wirelessly connect two XB13 speakers for stereo sound and with a built-in microphone the SRS-X13B can be used for hands-free calling. The device connects via bluetooth and Google Fast Pair technology for quick connection to Android devices. The speaker has a USB-C connection for charging.
Although the SRS-X13B is small, it delivers room-filling sound, according to Sony, especially when hung upside down from a high point. The speaker has a passive radiator that amplifies low tones and is equipped with a digital signal processor. According to Sony, that processor provides ‘clearer sound that spreads further’. Sony will release the SRS-XB13 in April in six colors, for a suggested retail price of 60 euros.
