Sony will release the Android 9.0 Pie recently presented by Google from September for six Xperia smartphones. It concerns phones from the XZ series, including the Sony Xperia XZ1 and XZ2.

According to GizChina, Sony will start making Android 9.0 Pie available for the smartphones from September. That update process will run until November, allowing owners of the Sony Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact, XZ Premium, XZ2, XZ2 Compact and XZ2 Premium to have the latest version of the mobile operating system well before the end of the year.

At the presentation of Android 9.0 Pie, Google already announced that the Sony Xperia XZ2 will receive the update at the latest at the end of the fall. Sony is the first of the manufacturers participating in the Android P Beta program to announce a specific schedule for the release of the update for Android 9.0. Google’s Pixel phones and the Essential Phone are the only phones that currently have the new Android version.

Android Pie brings a number of innovations, such as support for devices with screens with a notch. In developer mode, the system can simulate the notch so that the notification bar can be optimized. Furthermore, users with Android 9.0 will have access to ‘digital wellbeing’, which stands for a number of features that can limit smartphone use. Google has also included features in the new version that allow the operating system to predict what a user wants to do.
