Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4 will receive a firmware update next week that will allow the console to play 3D Blu-ray movies. The announcement follows a similar update from Microsoft for the Xbox One, which will be released in August.

Sony has it on Twitter’s PlayStation Europe account still about ‘coming soon’ for firmware update 1.75, but on the US account specifies the concern that the update will be released next week. However, which day is unknown. It is also unclear what changes the new firmware will bring.

The announcement follows Microsoft’s announcement last weekend that the August update for Xbox One will bring support for 3D Blu-ray content. That update also provides more social features, including the activity feed and the friends list, and the possibility to buy games for the Xbox One via a mobile phone.
