‘Sony Unveils PlayStation Neo on September 7’ – Update

Both Vice and the French Gameblog have learned from anonymous sources that the PlayStation 4 Neo will be presented at an event in New York on September 7th. It is not yet known what Sony will call the console.

Gameblog learned that the PS4 Neo will not be shown to the public for the first time between September 15 and 17 at the Tokyo Game Show, but at a Sony-organized event in New York on September 7. One of the reasons that may underlie an event on that date in New York is that Nintendo is likely to present the Nintendo NX at the Tokyo Game Show and Sony therefore wants to be earlier.

Vice also managed to trace the rumors from its own sources. One of Vice’s sources told me that it will mainly be a technical showcase. The game section of the site has also learned that the latest developer version will be shipped to game studios around the same time.

The PlayStation Neo or ‘4.5’ will be a more powerful version of the PS4. A leaked document showed the suspected specs of the console in June. It is not yet known when the console will be released.

Update Wed. 10:56 am: Sony has announced a ‘PlayStation Meeting’ where it will announce ‘details about the PlayStation business’. The meeting is scheduled for September 7 at 3:00 PM in New York, or 9:00 PM Central European Time. The event will take place at the PlayStaton Theater previously used for the PlayStation 4 presentation in 2013. What exactly will take place is not stated in the invitation, but it is likely that it concerns the PS4 Neo.
