Sony transfers PlayStation parts to American company
Sony will transfer Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment to a newly formed subsidiary later this year. All PlayStation parts therefore fall under Sony Interactive Entertainment, which has its headquarters not in Japan but in the US.
The merger puts an end to Sony Computer Entertainment, founded in 1993, as the main PlayStation company. That Sony subsidiary is currently located in Tokyo, Japan. The company is responsible for the research & development, production and sales of PlayStation hardware and software. In addition, the publishing and development of PlayStation titles also falls under this subsidiary.
In addition, there is Sony Network Entertainment, which was founded in 2010 and is responsible for Sony’s network activities, including the PlayStation Network. This unit is headquartered in San Mateo, California. The newly formed Sony Interactive Entertainment will be housed here.
As of April 1, the American subsidiary will be responsible for the further development of the PS4, PlayStation VR, PlayStation Network and the American TV service PlayStation Vue. Departments of the company will be established in Tokyo and London, among others. Sony has been streamlining its business for PlayStation for some time now. The parent company mainly focuses on its game console and camera sensors to improve the results.
