Sony to start selling OLED TVs next year
Sony will sell two models of TVs with OLED screens next year. That says the director of the Oled Association, a trade association of companies that are working with OLED screens. The TVs should be released in the spring and have screen diagonals of 55″ and 65″.
Sony will ask for $1999 for the small TV and $2999 for the large TV, writes financial news agency Forbes. According to the director of the OLED Association, the manufacturer expects to sell about 80,000 units of the small model and 120,000 of the large model. The Sony TVs will get panels from LG. The South Korean manufacturer is a member of the board of the OLED Association.
It is unknown why the Oled Association is allowed to release the information about the TVs. The rumors about OLED models from Sony were already going, but it is unusual for a trade association to confirm this and mention screen diagonals and prices.
It would not be the first time that Sony is working on OLED TVs. A few years ago, the manufacturer already showed a prototype of a 56″ model at the IFA electronics fair. The following year, however, Sony said it was putting its plans for OLED TVs on hold. The first logical moment for Sony to show the TVs is CES. , an electronics show taking place in Las Vegas in early January.
